MAKE GREAT CHOICES

As Parents, entrusting the physical and mental well being of our children to others can be a scary decision that we shouldn’t take lightly.

Today’s education system is not the same as the one we grew up with. In the recent past, many parents have witnessed the disregard of their rights and boundaries by a system that influences our children with the values of their choosing. There is a growing unease as some of our elected officials and unelected corporate interests have entered our schools without giving parents the right to choose, or have a real say in the decision making that affects our kids and family life. In many ways, parents have been feeling closed out and helpless to choose or have a say on whether this system’s agenda matches one of quality education and excellence. Recently, laws have been created which pose a serious risk to parental control.

We the parents are the true stake holders of the education system in our community. From the city council to the district school board of trustees, to every principal and teacher of a school in our district…They work for us.

Much like our children, we are bombarded with messages like “they’re all our children” or “we need to be inclusive” to justify and influence mass participation without questioning the authority who claims the power over our kids. But, we the parents have the power to steer our community values and academic path of our children and their future. The collective power the education system holds has become a tool of intimidation, who speak of community, but their actions alienate parents from the decisions that affect their children’s education, mental well-being, and harmony within their family or household. Our organization is an alliance of parents from the district townships and schools to inform, empower, and bring awareness to our community towards an unbiased collective direction which strives for: Quality education, transparency, parent rights, fiscal and individual responsibility as well as accountability from our boards, unions, school staff and 3rd party organizations.

We the parents of Franklin McKinley School District invite you to join us in collaborating and holding our elected officials and staff to a transparent code of ethics to honor and elevate our children’s quality of education. We want to use our involvement as parents in order to steer our community and its policies which affect our children. Though teachers are an important part of our team and we know that collaboration with them is vital, we must keep in mind that teachers are only in our children’s life for a year, but we are there for them for a lifetime.
